Saint Paul plaza outside Osborn370 tower will get new look

Saint Paul’s Osborn Plaza, a publicly owned outdoor area just outside the Osborn370 office building, will get its first overhaul in more than a quarter-century as part of a new city renovation plan.

The plaza is located along Wabasha Street, in front of Osborn370, an office building that’s home to startups, and, more recently, nonprofits like the Saint Paul & Minnesota Foundation. Across the plaza, Bloomington-based Kaeding Development Group is working to convert the former 17-story Ecolab University Center into more than 170 apartments, while an entrance to the Alliance Bank building is to the east.

Funding will come from a voter-approved sales tax. The plaza itself has been owned by the city since 1979.

Saint Paul is taking opinions on three proposed designs from Aune Fernandez Landscape Architects. A survey will be online through Jan. 5.
