Today, Mayor Carter and the City of Saint Paul celebrated the success of Evie Carshare, the city’s all-electric fleet of shared electric vehicles (EVs) renewably-powered by EV Spot Network charging stations across the Twin Cities.
Since its launch in February 2022, residents have used Evie Carshare to make 150,000+ trips to connect to family, essential services, daily necessities, and fun across the Twin Cities.
Evie Carshare users have logged 1.5 million zero-emission miles, substantially reducing the city’s carbon footprint. Evie Carshare’s sustained growth in trips and membership shows it’s a popular option to meet transportation needs, especially for service to low-income communities and communities of color, who accounted for 42% and 37% of total users respectively.
“Evie has been an innovative, invaluable community asset since we first began this partnership,” said Mayor Carter. “These significant milestones emphasize how Evie is helping Saint Paulites get where they need to go, whether it’s to get to work, to visit family, or even just to grab a cup of coffee. I recently took one for a spin and remain excited by the service this provides to our entire Twin Cities community.”
“Electric vehicles are the future and the continued success of this carshare program is evidence of that,” said Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey. “By embracing electric vehicles, Minneapolis is improving mobility options for residents, reducing emissions, and leading the way toward a greener, smarter, and more sustainable future for generations to come. We’re so grateful to have the EV Spot Network program in the Twin Cities and look forward to our continued partnership with them.”

“Saint Paul is leading the way in the fight against climate change through our innovative programs and partnerships,” said Chief Resilience Officer Russ Stark. “Through implementing creative solutions, such as this all-electric carshare fleet, Saint Paul is building a city that is resilient and meets the needs of our community.”
With users consistently reporting high levels of satisfaction, the program serve as a testament to innovation, partnership, accessibility, and sustainability.
“We’re thrilled to be part of this partnership, which has produced the fastest-growing and most highly-utilized EV carshare network in the country,” HOURCAR President and CEO Paul Schroeder said. “Mayor Carter once described Evie Carshare as a moonshot, and it’s now true three times over, as 1.5 million miles of usage is the equivalent of driving to the moon and back three times. The sky’s the limit for this project.”
